SAUGATUCK, i. (AP) – Police recovered the body of a drowned woman in Lake Michigan on Sunday, hours after she was first reported missing.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office said Mary Claire Dice-Grooters swam from a boat without a life jacket about a mile north of the Saugatuck Pier Head on Saturday afternoon.
She went underwater and did not resurface, authorities said.
The emergency teams started looking for her, but they had to finish searching when it got dark. Search teams found the woman’s body on Sunday morning.
Dice-Grooters was 51 and from Grandville, Michigan.
